In today’s dental practice preventive care takes many forms. Cleanings, fluoride treatments and dental sealants are among the most popular forms of preventive dentistry. Other preventive minded treatments we offer include:

Oral cancer screenings using a special dye and light called VIZALITE can be used at our office. As with any cancer early detection and treatment are the keys to success.

Athletic mouthguards can be custom fitted for those adults and children that are active in sports. Custom mouthguards are effective and more comfortable than “boil and bite” styles. We offer several styles of mouthguard depending upon the sport and age of the participant.

One disease that can be prevented in most cases is periodontal disease. Periodontal disease was once called “pyorrhea of the gums”.

Periodontal diseases are infections that affect the tissues and bone that support the teeth. As the tissues are damaged, the sulcus develops into a pocket that can catch food and plaque. Generally, the more severe the disease, the greater the pocket depth and bone loss. The enlarged pockets allow harmful bacteria to grow and make it difficult to practice effective oral hygiene. Left untreated, periodontal diseases may eventually lead to tooth loss. Gum disease has also been scientifically associated with a number of systemic problems including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and low fetal birth-weight.
