Bleaching

Bleaching is a very popular cosmetic dental procedure. When a patient is pleased with the size, shape and position of their teeth, bleaching can be effectively used to enhance the color. Dental tooth whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten your smile.

Three basic methods exist for dental whitening. In office or “power” bleaching is an appointment in which hydrogen peroxide is placed on the teeth for 45-60 minutes. This works well but fades back quickly. After this method we recommend some at home treatment be continued to help maintain the color.

At home treatments include bleaching that is placed into custom fitted plastic trays (Nite White and Zoom) or Crest White Strips. These are used daily for 6-21 days and result in less fade back than “power” bleaching alone. Color maintenance is influenced by your oral hygiene habits and diet. “Touch up” procedures are possible if fading is noticed. Occasional side effects include transient cold sensitivity and/or mild gum sensitivity. Many scientific studies show that no tooth or gum damage occurs with these products.
